Bradley's Bakery
Our Wonderful History
This Bradley's Bakery was founded in 1960 by Fred & Alice Bradley at 1 Stafford Street, Werneth, Oldham. The business was started with a 600 loan from Alice Hyde, the mother of Alice Bradley and in its infancy, was run single handedly by Alice whilst Fred was doing his National Service.

The couple left Stafford Street in 1965 and took a break from the business to raise young family. Mark, who is the present owner and eldest son, was born in 1962.
In 1964 Alice and Fred were approached with a view to selling the business, which they did not want to do, so Fred asked for the then astronomical sum of 3,000 from the interested party.

Very surprisingly the figure was accepted and the business sold and the money was used for a deposit on a new shop in Roundthorn Road, Oldham and a house on College Road, Werneth.

In 1973 the family re-located to Oxford Street, Werneth where they stayed until 1981 and during this year the business was moved to its current location in Kings Road, Hurst, Ashton-under-Lyne. During their time in Hurst, the Bradley family have also owned shops in Stamford Square, Stalybridge and Broadoak Road, Ashton-under-Lyne.
